It was a year ago that my husband Peter and I were getting ready for Hurricane Irma:

September 5^th, 2017

It is the day before Hurricane Irma is scheduled to hit the Virgin Islands. It just stopped raining, so I went outside to see if there were any rainbows and there was. It was a faint rainbow, but I knew that this would be one of my last before pictures, so I grabbed my phone and took a picture. As soon as I saw how calm it was, I had mixed feelings and I knew that it was the calm before the storm. The sun came out and we knew that we had to prepare for Hurricane Irma. She was going to hit us tomorrow, so we had to board up the windows today. Our landlord Berry made customized wood boards for the windows and they fit perfectly. Peter helped Berry carry them from the side of the house and they were extremely heavy. I am glad that I did not have to help with that. We also took our SUV “squeaky” to the grocery store in Red Hook to get a few groceries to make sure we had enough food, water, vodka and candles.
